creative workshop dates – April

An exciting array of workshops is on offer at the lemon hound. Whether you would like to try you hand at a crochet blanket, pick up the knitting needles, or learn how to make a table centre, we have something here for everyone. Groups are kept small to ensure everyone has one to one tuition. Classes are aimed at the beginner through to advanced. They are a lot of fun, and so satisfying to go home having learnt a new skill. All materials and refreshments are included in all the lessons.

Beginner’s Crochet Class
68 The Old High Street, Folkestone

This workshop is aimed at those completely new to crochet, or those who may have tried it before but need refreshing on the basics.
During this lesson you will learn to cast on a foundation chain, then work through three basic stitches that are used in most patterns. After this day, with some practice you can be well on your way to starting your very first project.

This workshop is designed for those crocheter’s that are confident with double, half treble and treble crochet. We will be looking at a range of exciting new stitches to try out, and ideas for a new project to work on.

Granny Square for Beginners

This workshop is aimed at those that have just started learning to crochet. You will need to have learnt the basic stitches but reminders will be given throughout the course. We will start by learning how to form the traditional granny square, and variations of. You will be using contemporary colours and yarns. We will discuss joining methods, along with design and colour ideas, to get you excited for a new project

This session has been designed to push your crochet skills to new realms, with an array of exciting yarns and fibres to work with. Working on a variety of new granny square patterns, this course will prepare you for a new project with a difference.
We will look at new patterns, how to read a chart, ideas for construction, and joining methods. We will also discuss yarn and colour choices for your project.
You will need to be experienced in crochet and have an understanding of double, half treble and treble stitch.

This workshop has been designed to appeal to knitters who have confidence in the knit and purl stitch, and increasing and decreasing. We will dip our toe into the world of cable knitting, and the many varying stitches available to us.

Colour Work Knitting – let’s knit a hat

68 The Old High Street, Folkestone

Let’s get ahead and think about next winter. This is an exciting introduction to colour work. Learn how to knit a Kate Davies design Fair Isle hat. We will be following a pattern using charts and written instruction. You will need confidence in knitting in the round, using either circulars or double pointed needles, you need to know how to knit and purl, decrease and increase. I will give details on which pattern we will use and which yarn to buy. This class will be 2 sessions long, the first will be casting on and setting up the first few foundation rows, the second class will be looking at the crown decreases and any trouble shooting along the way.

Introduction to Wet Felting

Hythe

This workshop gives you a taster of how to felt merino fleece to make a piece of unique wool fabric that you can turn into a small bag, cushion cover or whatever else takes your fancy.
You will have a vast array of wools and embellishments to choose from to create a truly individual piece of art. Felt is very versatile and strong and is wonderful to stitch into. The possibilities are endless. This class is a lot of fun, but you will need a bit of elbow grease!

Introduction to Wet felting


Rag Rug Making – the shaggy pile

68 The Old High Street, Folkestone

Do you have a pile of old clothes that you would like to recycle? Or a stash of fabric that is crying out to be used? Then why not try the rag rug workshop? During this fun workshop you will be learning the ‘shaggy pile’ rug making technique, where scraps of fabric sit closely together on the surface of the foundation piece to create a soft shaggy pile. You will be working on a cushion cover. There will be an array of fabrics to use and the option to purchase more fabric and tools after the class so you can continue with your new found skill. Ideas will be given for design and colour use, and the techniques for preparing and working your fabric
