textiles
Many moons ago I studied Art and Design and specialised in textiles. I have a passion for surface texture and colour and this is unleashed when I turn to my work.
I love to experiment with the play of pattern and surface texture, whether it be with yarn, felt or clay. Many hours are spent creating, by layering, building up surfaces and texture to reveal a story. Whether it is creating a crochet heirloom blanket or ceramic sculpture each piece is made with the same devotion of time and energy.
I am interested in nature, and changes over time through weather or age. There’s nothing I love more than looking at lichen covered stone, a moss covered ground or washed up driftwood. I love to scour our local coastline for interesting finds that will influence my work. Heathered colour and muted tones feature heavily in my work, but with the unexpected ‘POP’ of colour to give it life.
